Curating Core Memories: Why Traditional Celebrations Still Matter in a Digital World

It is so easy to forget that creating core memories is meant for us—not for our social media feeds.

Core memories are the anchor points of our lives. They are the warmth that gets us through hard times, and the bright milestones we look forward to when life feels heavy. Yet, in the constant swirl of everyday responsibilities and endless scrolling, it’s all too easy to get bogged down and swept away by the noise.

Last year, I decided to host a gingerbread house decorating party for my birthday. I spent weeks happily immersing myself in the details—choosing lovely table decorations, picking out matching Christmas aprons, and dreaming up ways to make the day feel truly magical. I loved thinking through every touch: How can I make this feel special? What unique elements can I bring to the table?

Because I love the color pink, it became a canvas for bringing my own personality and aesthetic into the room—from the place settings and custom snacks to the floating balloons.

To me, none of it was a waste of time or money. Every detail added to the feeling of the day.

When I look back at the photos now, I can't help but smile. I don't just see a decorated table; I remember the effort, the love, and the deep attention to detail I poured into every corner of that room. I’m not even sure I posted any of it on social media at the time—and that’s the point. It wasn't done for an audience or a grid. It was created for the people in that room, and it was deeply special to me.

In a world where everything is quick, digital, and fleeting, taking the time to curate a real-life celebration is an act of love. It reminds us that the extra effort we put into celebrating life's moments isn't about perfection—it's about creating memories that warm our hearts for years to come.
