Cake, Chaos, and Celebrating Year One

My daughter will be turning one in early 2027—a sentence that is equal parts thrilling and genuinely scary to write! As the date draws closer, I’ve found myself thinking a lot about her first birthday and how I want to mark this milestone.

Before becoming a mum, I used to be in the "Why bother throwing a first birthday party? They won't even remember it!" camp. Now that I’m on the other side of the fence, my perspective has completely shifted.

Now, don't get me wrong—we aren't talking Taylor Armstrong levels of extravagance here. I won't be dropping $60,000 USD on a toddler's birthday (fellow Real Housewives fans, you know the party I'm talking about!). But it is so easy to get swept up in the whirlwind of party planning, especially when you love styling events and spend any time on social media. The pressure to make every detail picture-perfect can feel very real. (I am, after all, the kind of person who uses a new season of Housewives or a change in weather as a legitimate reason to host a get-together!)

What I’ve come to realize is that a first birthday isn't just about the baby—it's a celebration for the parents, too. You survived the first year! You are creating memories that you, your family, and your close friends will look back on for decades to come.

Whether you’re keeping it simple with a single balloon and a smash cake or hosting a full-blown weekend extravaganza, the most important ingredient is love and fun. Beyond the aesthetics and the party prep, it’s all about creating special moments for you, your little one, and the people who love you most.
